Man wielding knife arrested in Shaw’s parking lot in Portland

PORTLAND — Police arrested a man accused of chasing children with a knife in a supermarket parking lot Sunday night.

Officers responded to Shaw’s on Auburn Avenue at 9:20 p.m. June 25 after receiving multiple reports of a man pursuing children while armed with a knife, according to the Portland Police Department.

Store staff sheltered the children inside and locked the doors until police arrived.

Curtis Crawford, 54, who is unhoused, was taken into custody at the scene.

He faces charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and criminal trespass.

No injuries were reported.
