BOSTON — A 27-year-old Charlestown man was arrested on firearm charges Monday night following a traffic stop in the Charlestown neighborhood, police said.
At 9:08 p.m., officers from the Boston Police Department’s District A-15 Anti-Crime Unit observed a vehicle driving at high speed the wrong way on Polk Street.
The car then parked in front of a fire hydrant near the intersection of Medford and Polk streets.
As officers approached, the occupants attempted to flee, accidentally locking one passenger inside and triggering the car alarm.
Police instructed the individuals to return to the vehicle for identification, which they did.
During a subsequent search of the car, officers discovered a Glock 26 handgun with one round in the chamber and 11 rounds in the magazine.
Gabriel Toribio, 27, of Charlestown, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device.
Toribio is expected to be arraigned in Charlestown District Court.
The date of the arraignment was not immediately available.
