Firearm recovered after person with gun call in Hyde Park

BOSTON — Police arrested an 18-year-old man on firearm charges and two juveniles on vandalism charges Monday after responding to a report of a person with a gun in Hyde Park.

At about 4:45 p.m., officers from District E-18 responded to the area of 40 Greenwood Avenue.

They were given a description of three males reportedly carrying firearms.

Police were told that two individuals had slashed a victim’s car tires, while a third indicated he had a gun.

Officers observed the group walking in the area.

One male ran into a backyard, while officers stopped the other two crossing the street.

The third suspect was found in a side yard of 60 Westminster Street.

Searching the flight path of the suspect who fled, police recovered a black backpack containing marijuana packages, a scale and vape pens.

A K-9 unit assisted in locating a discarded firearm near 24 Greenwood Avenue.

The gun had one round in the chamber and 16 in the magazine.

Davon Thomas, 18, of South Boston, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition and a large capacity feeding device, defacement of a firearm serial number, and possession to distribute Class D.

He is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court.

Two juvenile males, ages 15 and 17, were arrested and charged with destruction of property.

They are expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
