Rhode Island police make multiple arrests in separate cases

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island law enforcement agencies made several arrests in unrelated cases over a four-day period, according to state police reports.

On June 21, the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested David Canales, 19, of Cranston, on charges including assault with a deadly weapon and domestic strangulation.

Canales was taken into custody without incident and turned over to Cranston police.

Three days later, on June 24, Lincoln Barracks officers and the Financial Crimes Unit arrested Mayeline Martinez, 39, of Providence, for allegedly obtaining money under false pretenses and fraudulently obtaining public assistance.

Martinez was arraigned in Sixth District Court and released on $5,000 personal recognizance.

Also on June 24, the Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended Abner Santos, 20, of Johnston, on multiple charges including reckless driving, eluding police, and assault of a police officer.

Santos also faced an existing warrant for assault with intent to commit first-degree sexual assault.

He surrendered to Fourth District Court and was later arraigned in Third District Court.

All arrests occurred without reported incidents.

The cases are now proceeding through the Rhode Island court system.
