Firearm recovered during traffic stop in Mattapan

BOSTON — Boston police arrested a 29-year-old man on multiple firearm charges following a traffic stop in Mattapan early Monday morning.

At about 1:50 a.m. on June 24, 2024, officers from the District B-3 Anti-Crime Unit stopped a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker near Norfolk Street and Morton Street.

During the stop, officers observed suspicious behavior from the passenger, Nyjulius Johnson of Boston, who appeared to be concealing an item in his left pocket.

Upon searching Johnson, police recovered a Glock 43 handgun with five rounds in the magazine.

A subsequent check revealed the firearm was reported stolen from Georgia.

Johnson faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a firearm second offense, firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime, and receiving stolen property over $1,200.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for operating with an expired inspection sticker.
