ENFIELD — A domestic violence suspect was arrested after swimming in the Connecticut River for over 30 minutes, while two women were separately charged with drug offenses at the same location on June 23.
At 5:51 p.m., Enfield police responded to a family violence report on Poplar Street.
The suspect fled on foot before officers arrived.
K-9 units tracked him to the Connecticut River, where he entered the water and refused to return to shore.
Fire department marine units and police pursued the suspect downriver.
After negotiations failed, officers restrained him about 1.2 miles from where he entered the water.
He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for evaluation.
The suspect faces three counts of third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, and interfering with police.
He is held on $50,000 bond.
During this incident, Eileen MacDonald, 55, approached officers at the scene.
A K-9 officer spotted drug paraphernalia in her vehicle.
A search uncovered 36.5 grams of fentanyl, 14.41 grams of crack cocaine, 25 packets of Suboxone, and over $200 in cash.
MacDonald and her passenger, Christina Cooley, 40, were arrested and charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
Both are held on $100,000 bond each.
The suspect’s dog, which was loose during the pursuit, was unharmed and returned to the suspect’s family.
