WILLISTON — A Burlington man faces multiple charges after crashing his vehicle, assaulting a state trooper and fleeing the scene early Sunday morning.

Vermont State Police arrested Joshua M. Garvey, 28, on charges of DUI refusal, resisting arrest and two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer.

At 1:21 a.m. Sunday, troopers observed a vehicle exit Interstate 89 at Exit 12 and drive into a ditch on St. George Road in Williston.

When approached by a trooper, Garvey allegedly assaulted the officer and fled on foot.

Authorities located Garvey at the intersection of St. George Road and Hurricane Lane.

He resisted arrest but was eventually apprehended, police said.

Garvey was processed at the Williston barracks and later transported to Northwest State Correctional Facility.

He was issued a citation to appear at Chittenden County Superior Court at 10:30 a.m. Monday to answer to the charges.
