Newport police seek suspect in Passumpsic Savings Bank robbery

NEWPORT — The Newport Police Department is seeking public assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a bank robbery at Passumpsic Savings Bank on Gardner Street this morning.

According to Chief Travis Bingham, police responded to the bank at approximately 9:42 a.m. following a report of a robbery.

Bank staff reported that the suspect approached a teller and passed a note demanding large bills.

The suspect verbally threatened staff with a firearm, although no weapon was brandished.

The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash in a black BMW sedan with New Hampshire license plates.

Police describe the suspect as a white male in his 30s, wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans, white shoes, and a blue beanie with white “LR” letters printed on the front. The individual is reported to have multiple tattoos on his hands, arms, and face.

The Newport Police Department continues to investigate the incident and is working to gather additional evidence and information to identify and apprehend the suspect.
