BEAN’S PURCHASE — An injured trail runner was assisted off the Wild River Trail in Bean’s Purchase on Saturday after sustaining a leg injury during a multi-trail run in the White Mountain National Forest.
New Hampshire Fish and Game officials were notified at 10:45 a.m. about Phoebe Seltzer, 28, of North Conway, N.H., who was injured more than 5 miles from the Wild River campground.
Conservation officers responded to Wild River Road, using ATVs to navigate severe washouts and access the campground.
Meanwhile, Seltzer continued moving and reached the campground at approximately 2:30 p.m., where officers met her.
Officers transported Seltzer via ATV to their cruisers and provided a courtesy ride back to her vehicle in Jackson, where her run began.
Officials noted that Seltzer was an experienced trail runner and hiker who was well-prepared for the outing.
However, they emphasized that even experienced hikers can encounter unexpected situations.
New Hampshire Fish and Game reminds hikers to always be prepared and have a backup plan.
