WEST HAVEN — A routine response to a car crash led to the arrest of a convicted felon on multiple weapons and drug charges Saturday night, police said.

Brandunn Ellis, 32, was taken into custody after attempting to flee from officers who discovered two firearms, including one modified to be fully automatic, following a two-vehicle collision on First Avenue near Maple Street around 8 p.m.

West Haven police responding to the crash found a fully loaded Glock 17 handgun with an extended 24-round magazine and a “Glock switch” modification in one of the vehicles.

The modification allows the pistol to fire automatically.

When officers tried to apprehend Ellis, he attempted to escape on foot but was caught near Wood Street.

Police said they found a second firearm and narcotics in his possession.

Ellis, who has previous firearm convictions, faces multiple charges including criminal possession of a firearm, weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of a high-capacity magazine, and possession with intent to sell narcotics.

He is being held on $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court in the coming days.
