PERU — An 86-year-old Pennsylvania woman escaped injury after her vehicle rolled over on Hapgood Pond Road near Stone Place Road on June 21.

Marcia Van Dyck of Newtown, Pennsylvania, was traveling north around 2:35 p.m. when she fell asleep at the wheel of her 2023 Subaru CrossTrek, according to Vermont State Police.

Van Dyck’s vehicle crossed the centerline, struck a tree, and overturned.

Despite the cloudy and rainy conditions contributing to wet road surfaces, Van Dyck, who was wearing her seatbelt, did not sustain any injuries in the crash that totaled her vehicle.

Troopers from the Shaftsbury barracks, along with assistance from the Peru Fire Department and Londonderry Rescue, responded to the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and no hospitalizations were reported.
