BOSTON — At about 2:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Ronnie Powell, 38, of Roxbury, on firearm charges following a traffic stop in Dorchester.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Columbia Road when they observed a motor vehicle operator known to be involved in a prior armed robbery incident.
The operator, who had a suspended driver’s license, was not legally able to operate a motor vehicle.
As officers followed the vehicle, they observed it fail to stop at a stop sign.
They activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop and were able to stop the vehicle in the area of 97 Bird St.
Officers made contact with the vehicle’s occupants and requested the operator to produce a driver’s license.
The operator stated that his license was suspended, and officers requested that he exit the vehicle.
During further investigation, officers recovered a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield firearm from the vehicle, with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.
Powell was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a firearm 2nd offense, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes.
He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
