Motorcyclist injured, driver charged with DUI after Toland County crash

COVENTRY — A motorcyclist was seriously injured and a driver was charged with DUI following a collision at 1260 Main Street on June 20, police said.

At around 6:16 p.m., Coventry Police were called to the scene of the accident involving a car and a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar helicopter, where he is currently in stable condition.

The Metro Traffic Services Accident Reconstruction Team attended the crash site to assist with the investigation.

The driver of the car, identified as Robert Curtis, 77, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to grant the right of way.

Curtis was released on a $2,000 non-surety bond and is expected to appear in court on July 8.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident and have requested that any witnesses contact the Coventry Police Department at 860-742-7331.
