CRANSTON — Two fugitives wanted in connection with a Cranston incident that led to a police officer discharging their firearm were apprehended Tuesday at a Boston train station, authorities said.
Michael Campagna and Megan O’Brien, both 24, were arrested without incident at JFK train station by a joint task force including the U.S.
Marshals Service, Massachusetts State Police, Boston Police, Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force, and Cranston Police Department.
The arrests are linked to a June 16 event at Garden City Shopping Center in Cranston, where the suspects reportedly shoplifted and fled in a gray Kia.
A subsequent encounter with a Cranston officer on Reservoir Avenue resulted in Campagna allegedly driving over the officer’s foot and the officer firing their weapon.
Campagna is charged with felony assault and/or battery, assault on a police officer, reckless driving/eluding an officer, obstruction, resisting arrest, and conspiracy.
O’Brien faces felony assault and/or battery, assault on a police officer, aiding and abetting in both assault on a police officer and reckless driving/eluding, and conspiracy.
Additional warrants for felony shoplifting against O’Brien and misdemeanor shoplifting against Campagna have been issued by Cranston Police Department.
Extradition to Rhode Island is pending for both suspects to face their charges.
