FORT KENT — The Fort Kent Police Department has alerted the public that wildlife specimens in Caribou and Wade have recently tested positive for rabies.
In response to the findings, officials are urging citizens to report any unusual wildlife behavior.
Instances of animals acting strangely, carcasses located in unusual places, such as under porches, or roadkill should be reported immediately.
Concerned residents can contact their local game warden at (207) 532-5400 or reach out to the wildlife specialist at (207) 629-5178 to report any suspicious wildlife activity.
The police department’s notification aims to prevent the spread of the virus and to protect community health and safety by monitoring and controlling local wildlife populations.
Citizens are advised to maintain a safe distance from wildlife and ensure their pets’ rabies vaccinations are up to date.
