HINGHAM — Maine State Police are renewing their appeal for information in the unsolved homicide of Leslie Spellman, a 26-year-old yoga teacher from Hingham, Massachusetts, whose life was tragically cut short nearly 46 years ago.

During the summer of 1977, Spellman was hitchhiking with her dog from Barre to a Bar Harbor Ashram Community.

Tragically, on June 19, a vacationing man and his family stumbled upon Spellman’s body in the serene setting of Asticou Gardens.

The whereabouts of her dog at the time were unknown, but the pet was later found approximately a mile from where Spellman’s body was discovered.

The case has remained cold for decades, and authorities are now seeking new leads that could help bring closure to this long-standing mystery.

Investigators are urging anyone with information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, to come forward.

Maine State Police, Major Crimes Unit – North, located at 198 Maine Avenue in Bangor, is the designated contact point for tips.

Members of the public can reach out to the unit by calling 207-973-3750.

The hope is that fresh information will finally shed light on the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of Leslie Spellman and provide justice after years of unanswered questions.
