Worcester man arrested for carrying illegal firearm in Webster Square

WORCESTER — Worcester Police arrested a local man late Friday night for illegal gun possession after he was spotted with a firearm in Webster Square.

At about 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a male brandishing a firearm in the area of Webster Square Plaza on Main St. Upon arrival, they located a white Mercedes parked alongside a red vehicle, which matched the description provided.

Police identified the suspect as Marcus Asamoah, 21, of Whipple St. He was seen wearing a satchel consistent with the witness’s description.

When an officer approached Asamoah and instructed him to show his hands, the officer felt a hard object in the satchel that resembled a handgun.

A loaded firearm was discovered inside the satchel.

Asamoah did not possess a firearm license.

Asamoah was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card.
