East Boston robbery suspect arrested during separate break-in attempt

BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s District A-7 arrested a Malden man on June 15 in connection with a significant robbery in East Boston that occurred the previous week.

Timothy Deconinck, 55, was taken into custody following a 911 call reporting a break-in at 212 Waldemar Ave. around 1:20 p.m. He was found attempting to enter an apartment with a drill and other tools.

Deconinck’s arrest stemmed from a warrant issued from the East Boston District Court relating to the June 7 robbery of $240,000 at 230 Meridian Street.

William Cataldo, 59, of Saugus, was also arrested during the Waldemar Ave incident after officers located him nearby.

Deconinck faces multiple charges, including unarmed robbery, carjacking, impersonating a police officer, and several others related to the June 15 break-in.

Cataldo has been charged with possession of burglarious tools and other related offenses.

Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
