Man arrested after fleeing accident scene in Barnet

NEWPORT — A Connecticut man was arrested on June 15 after allegedly leaving the scene of an accident that damaged property in Barnet.

State Police were called to 442 US RT 5 at 2:36 p.m. after reports of a vehicle veering off the road and causing property damage before fleeing the scene.

The vehicle, a 2013 Mazda 3, was later found disabled on I91 near mile marker 131, heading northbound in St. Johnsbury.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Benjamin Adams of Portland, CT, was taken into custody and processed at the State Police Barracks.

The owners of the damaged property, Angie Nelson, 48, and James Kendall, 58, both residents of Barnet, VT, were identified as the victims in the incident.

Adams was released with a citation to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court – Criminal Division on Aug. 5.
