Lowell, MA police arrest 26 in multi-agency drug, warrant sweep

LOWELL — Police have arrested 26 individuals and issued criminal summonses to two others as part of a coordinated crackdown on drug offenses and outstanding warrants in the city’s Back Central neighborhood and South Common area.

The Lowell Police Department’s Special Investigations Section, along with assistance from the Warrant Unit, Gang Unit, Chelmsford Police Department, Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, and Andover Police, carried out several operations over the past two weeks.

Authorities reported seizing cocaine, fentanyl, prescription pills, cash, and a loaded .380 caliber firearm with a defaced serial number during the operations.

Among those arrested, criminal charges include trafficking cocaine over 36 grams, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card (FID), carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.

Additional charges for the arrested individuals range from conspiracy to violate drug laws, illegal possession of Class A and Class B substances, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, to multiple counts of default and straight warrants for various crimes such as larceny, trespassing, intimidation of a witness, and assault and battery.

The collaborative effort highlights the ongoing commitment of local law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related activities and apprehend those with outstanding warrants in the Lowell community.

The police department has not released the names of the individuals arrested or the specifics of the charges they face, pending their arraignment in court.
