BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Marvin Lafontant, 36, of Roslindale, following a traffic stop in Dorchester late Tuesday night where they recovered a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
At about 10:50 p.m., officers patrolling near Columbia Road and Dudley Street spotted a vehicle speeding and initiated a stop using their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens.
The vehicle was pulled over at 4 Half Moon Street, where officers then engaged with the driver, later identified as Lafontant.
Upon requesting Lafontant’s license and registration, which he failed to provide completely, officers noted that his hands were shaking and trembling.
They subsequently asked him to exit the vehicle for further investigation.
Lafontant resisted the officers’ attempts to conduct a pat frisk by pushing them and attempting to flee.
After a brief chase and a struggle, during which Lafontant reportedly reached for his waistband repeatedly, officers handcuffed him and discovered a firearm concealed in a sock in his groin area.
The weapon, a Smith & Wesson M&P BodyGuard, was loaded with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine.
The serial number on the firearm had been defaced.
Lafontant faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, defacement of a firearm serial number, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.
His arraignment is set to take place in Roxbury District Court.
