WOOLWICH — A motor vehicle accident on Middle Road resulted in serious injuries and a response from multiple law enforcement agencies on June 12.
The Sagadahoc County Communications received a call at 7:01 p.m. reporting the crash near 1044 Middle Road.
Deputies from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, alongside an officer from the Bath Police Department, arrived at the site of the incident involving a 2007 Toyota Rav-4.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle, driven by 31-year-old Chloe Monsen of Bath, lost control while traveling north on Rt. 127.
The Toyota crossed the northbound lane and struck a group of trees before coming to a halt in front of the Middle Road residence.
Monsen, who was not wearing a seat belt, had to be extricated from the car and was airlifted to Maine Medical Center with serious, yet non-life-threatening injuries.
A four-year-old boy in the vehicle was transported to the same hospital by Woolwich EMS.
His injuries were serious but were mitigated by the use of a child-safety seat.
While the investigation is still underway, initial evidence suggests that alcohol was a factor in the crash, though speed was not.
A reconstruction effort is being conducted by Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, Brunswick Police Department, and Freeport Police Department.
Sheriff Joel Merry stressed the dangers of impaired driving, especially with the increase in summer traffic.
He urged the public to recognize the severe consequences of such actions and to contribute to preventing drunk driving.
The Woolwich Fire Department and EMS also provided assistance at the scene.
Rt. 127 was closed for about two hours for accident processing and cleanup.
The accident remains under investigation by the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
