SOUTH BURLINGTON — An inmate at Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility has been cited for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after attacking her cellmate early Wednesday morning, according to Vermont State Police.

The assault took place at approximately 4:55 a.m. on May 29 when Veronica Lewis, 40, allegedly used a tablet computer and a lock inside a sock to attack 52-year-old Yvonne Frederiksen while she slept.

Frederiksen, who is also incarcerated at the facility, suffered serious injuries and required hospitalization at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

She has been returned to the correctional facility following treatment.

Lewis, currently serving a sentence for attempted second-degree murder, was ordered to appear for arraignment at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 1 in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Burlington.

The Department of Corrections reported the incident to the state police, prompting an investigation which is still active.

Detective Trooper Vienna Gildea has urged anyone with information to contact the Williston Barracks at 802-878-7111 or submit an anonymous tip online at https://vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

The affidavit of probable cause will be made public after Lewis’ arraignment, and media inquiries should be directed to the Court Clerk’s Office for hearing details and to the Department of Corrections for further questions.

State police have not released additional information at this time.”,South Burlington
