Police investigate accidental firearm discharge at Derby Line Post Office

DERBY LINE – The Vermont State Police Derby Barracks are investigating an accidental discharge of a firearm that occurred at the Derby Line Post Office on this afternoon.

According to the report, troopers arrived on the scene at around 3:15 p.m. and identified the individual involved as Alex Carter, 68, of Morgan.

The investigation revealed that Carter was removing his firearm prior to entering the post office when he accidentally dropped the weapon on the ground.

The weapon discharged into the ground.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

The Vermont State Police stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
