NEWBURY — A New Hampshire man was taken into custody on DUI and false information charges following a single-vehicle crash on US-5, Vermont State Police reported.
Troopers responded to the incident near 2296 US-5 at 4:08 p.m. Monday, finding a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt with moderate damage blocking the northbound lane.
Darren Pelland, 35, of Lisbon, New Hampshire, was identified as the driver.
Investigation revealed that Pelland had lost control of his vehicle, hitting a guardrail and causing the vehicle to cross into oncoming traffic.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
Pelland displayed signs of impairment, and subsequent sobriety tests indicated he was under the influence.
Eyewitness accounts also contradicted Pelland’s version of the events leading to the crash.
The vehicle involved was earlier sought by Bath, New Hampshire, police in connection with a hit-and-run incident.
Pelland was processed at the St. Johnsbury Barracks and is scheduled to appear in Orange County Superior Court on Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m.
Woodsville EMS and Fire assisted at the scene.
