Traffic stop in Auburn leads to arrest for unlawful firearm possession

1 min read

AUBURN — A routine traffic stop conducted by Auburn Police Officer J. Ryan on May 29 led to the arrest of a man for unlawful possession of a firearm.

While monitoring traffic on Southbridge Street, Officer Ryan observed a driver using his cell phone in violation of Massachusetts law.

Upon stopping the vehicle, it was determined that the operator, identified as 29-year-old Dustin Kelly of Jefferson, was driving without a valid license and had an outstanding arrest warrant.

During the arrest, Officer Ryan discovered that Kelly was in possession of a loaded firearm without a License to Carry (LTC), which had previously been revoked.

Kelly now faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition without an LTC.

The circumstances surrounding the original revocation of Kelly’s LTC were not detailed in the report.

Kelly has been taken into custody, and as with all suspects, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address illegal firearm possession.
