Man faces multiple charges after assaulting officer, resisting arrest in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE — Vermont State Police arrested a Waterville man for assaulting a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest following a traffic stop on Rt. 15.

Troopers pulled over a vehicle at 11:51 a.m. for a motor vehicle violation.

During the stop, they identified Lance Bessette, 57, as a passenger.

Bessette exhibited signs of impairment and was found to be in violation of a court-ordered condition not to consume alcohol.

When troopers initiated further investigation, Bessette attempted to flee on foot across Rt. 15.

He was apprehended shortly after in a nearby field.

Bessette resisted arrest for several minutes and assaulted a State Trooper before being taken into custody.

Following the incident, Bessette was transported to Morrisville Police Department for processing.

He was later released with a citation to appear in Lamoille Superior Court to face charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and violation of conditions of release (VCOR).
