WESTPORT — Two individuals were taken into custody Wednesday following a larceny at the Super Stop & Shop that escalated into a high-speed chase and ended in a vehicle collision.
At about 1:50 p.m., Westport police responded to a call from the grocery store located at 1790 Post Road East.
An officer on patrol in the parking lot approached the suspect vehicle in an attempt to detain the individuals involved.
The male suspect, who was in the driver’s seat, complied with police and exited the vehicle.
However, the female passenger took control of the wheel, quickly accelerating and dragging the officer for a short distance as she attempted to flee the scene.
Officers pursued the suspect vehicle as it fled westbound on Post Road East.
The high-speed chase concluded when the female driver crashed into a van at the intersection of Morningside Drive.
The woman was arrested and transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
There were no reports of other injuries as a result of the incident.
The accident prompted authorities to temporarily close Post Road East while they addressed the scene.
Westport Police Department continues to investigate the event.
