BOSTON — At about 10:52 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, officers from the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force and the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit arrested two individuals after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a loaded firearm, a large capacity feeding device, and drugs near the intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Talbot Avenue in Dorchester.

Officers on a directed patrol noticed a black Toyota Corolla with excessively dark window tint speeding on Dorchester Avenue.

They activated their emergency lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers spoke with the driver, Mekhi Phipps-Dedrick, 21, and his passenger, Chance Pierre, 19, both of Dorchester.

Both occupants became agitated and non-compliant, repeatedly yelling at the officers and refuting their presence.

During an investigation, officers found a large backpack inside the vehicle containing multiple sealed packages of marijuana and $300 in cash.

Further inspection led officers to the vehicle’s trunk, where they discovered a bag on top of the spare tire containing an extended magazine for a black firearm.

The firearm was identified as a Glock ghost gun with no round in the chamber and 16 live 9mm cartridges in the magazine.

Phipps-Dedrick and Pierre were arrested and taken into custody.

Phipps-Dedrick received a Massachusetts Uniform Citation and faces charges including excessive tint, speeding, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a large capacity feeding device.

Pierre is expected to be arraigned for a warrant out of New Bedford District Court on charges of disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a family or household member.
