SIMSBURY — The Simsbury Police Department reported a significant rise in thefts and attempted thefts from vehicles throughout the town over the past week, with several neighborhoods being particularly affected.
Areas that have seen increased theft activity include Rt 185 (Hartford Rd), the Musket Trail/Squadron Line neighborhoods, Somerset Lane, and the Westborough and David Drive neighborhoods in the south end between Rt 10 (Hopmeadow St) and Rt 167 (Bushy Hill Rd).
Old Farms Road has also been targeted.
Authorities have noted that most incidents have involved unlocked vehicles, although one vehicle was reported stolen.
The Simsbury Police Department is actively investigating these crimes and is working closely with other law enforcement agencies and private security firms to prevent further incidents and apprehend the perpetrators.
The police are urging residents to take proactive measures to protect their property.
These include locking vehicles at all times, securing keys and fobs in a safe place away from the vehicles, and utilizing security features such as motion sensors and cameras.
The department is appealing to the community for assistance.
