LITCHFIELD — Maine State Police have launched a homicide investigation after deputies found 90-year-old Gerald Martin deceased in his home on May 18.

Responding to a family member’s request for a welfare check, deputies from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office made the grim discovery of Martin’s body.

Due to the circumstances, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was promptly notified and took over the investigation.

Following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted on May 19, the death was officially ruled a homicide.

After a thorough investigation throughout the weekend, MCU detectives arrested 55-year-old Shari Allimah of Lewiston on May 22, charging her with Martin’s murder.

As the case progresses through the judicial system, it is important to remember that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
