Boston police arrest man on firearm, drug charges after traffic stop

BOSTON — At about 6:10 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, officers assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit of District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Nygell Jones, 43, of Dorchester, on firearm and drug charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Hancock Street and Columbia Road when they observed a motor vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign.

Officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

As officers approached the vehicle, the front seat passenger exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away from the traffic stop.

Officers were able to stop the passenger and requested the operator’s license and registration.

The operator was unable to produce a driver’s license and was requested to exit the vehicle.

After further investigation, officers recovered a firearm from inside the motor vehicle.

The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 30 with ten rounds in the magazine.

Officers also recovered two plastic bags of cocaine, fentanyl, and two loose pills of oxycontin.

The passenger was promptly released from the scene.

Jones was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of class A, possession of class B, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
