GROVETON — A youth was injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident on May 23, after losing control and being thrown from the machine while navigating a hill at approximately 6:40 p.m.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department was alerted to the incident involving a single ATV in Groveton.
The operator, whose name and age have not been released, was transported to Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster by a parent, who had witnessed the aftermath of the accident.
According to the youth, the crash occurred while making a left turn up a hill, leading to a loss of control and multiple rolls.
The ATV did not roll over the youth and instead veered away after the operator was ejected.
The parent, who had seen the youth walking back towards their house, was in the process of driving the injured youth to the hospital and called 911 en route.
It was noted that the youth was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
A Groveton Police Officer was dispatched to the scene to document evidence and conduct a preliminary investigation.
The Conservation Officer, after speaking with the youth at the hospital, also examined the crash site located on private property along power lines off Thompson Road.
While the crash is still under investigation, preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed may have been a factor.
Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
