BROOKFIELD — A structure fire broke out this morning at a residence operating an in-home daycare, resulting in the evacuation and hospital evaluation of two adults and two children, as well as minor injuries to two firefighters.

The Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company, along with the Brookfield Vol. Fire Dept. Candlewood Company Inc, responded to the call at 8:47 a.m. at a colonial style single-family home located at 12 Junction Rd.

Upon arrival, the first chief on the scene confirmed the active fire with smoke billowing from the attic.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the attic, swiftly bringing it under control.

The occupants of the home were able to evacuate safely with the children in the daycare before emergency services arrived.

All four residents were taken to Danbury Hospital by Brookfield EMS for evaluation and have been discharged with no significant injuries reported.

Later, two firefighters were also transported to Danbury Hospital to treat minor injuries sustained during the fire suppression efforts.

They too have been released following treatment.

The origin and cause of the fire are currently under investigation by the Brookfield Fire Marshal’s Office.

Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
