BOSTON — At about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested David Ramgeet, 25, of Dorchester, on firearm charges.
Officers were on patrol in the area of 102 Talbot Ave. when they observed a large group congregating on the sidewalk near Harambe Park.
They also noticed an unattended off-highway vehicle (dirt bike) near the group.
Officers exited their marked cruiser and began to approach the dirt bike.
As they were nearing the vehicle, several members of the group yelled for someone to get on the dirt bike.
A male ran towards the dirt bike, ignoring officers’ orders to stay away, and attempted to flee.
Officers gained control of the suspect, and a violent struggle ensued.
An unknown female tried to intervene and gain control of the suspect’s fanny pack.
Despite the suspect’s continued attempts to have someone take his bag, officers managed to handcuff him and recover a firearm from the fanny pack.
The firearm was later identified as a Polymer Ghost gun with one round in the chamber and 11 rounds in the magazine.
Ramgeet was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.
He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
