HINSDALE — Following a hit-and-run incident on May 21 that left a police officer injured, the Hinsdale Police Department is actively searching for the driver who fled the scene and is urging the public to remain vigilant.
The ordeal began when a vehicle struck a Warwick, Massachusetts police officer and fled west on Route 119 toward Hinsdale.
Hinsdale police located the vehicle on Main Street, but the driver sped away, eventually crashing on Brattleboro Road.
While the female passenger, identified as Estrella Crespo, was apprehended and charged with disobeying an officer, the male driver escaped on foot.
Authorities have described the suspect as a white male with a medium build, last seen wearing black shorts and no shirt.
Although his whereabouts are unknown and he may be unarmed, officials have not issued a lockdown for the town and believe there is no immediate public threat.
Local schools were placed in shelter-in-place mode as a precaution due to the proximity of the incident.
The Hinsdale School District’s quick action ensured the safety of staff and students during the event.
The Hinsdale Police Department expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by various agencies, including Chesterfield, Warwick, Winchester, Keene police departments, Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office, NH Fish and Game, and Rescue Inc. Technical Rescue Team.
