Falcons varsity baseball wins in extra innings, softball falls to Lyndon

NEWPORT — The North Country Union High School varsity baseball and softball teams faced off against Lyndon Institute on Saturday, with the baseball team securing a thrilling 3-2 victory in nine innings, while the softball team fell short 13-8.

In the baseball game, Logan Cross proved to be the hero, going 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs, including the game-winning single that scored Luis Sanchez and gave the Falcons a walk-off win over the Vikings.

The Falcons will host Mount Mansfield Union High School on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Despite the loss, the varsity softball team had several strong individual performances. Ally Lapierre led the way, going 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored.

Tyra Scelza, Jorja Kinney, and Taylor Bingham each contributed two hits in the effort. The team will look to bounce back when they travel to U-32 for a game on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
