NATICK — A fatal train strike in Natick that claimed the lives of two individuals is currently under investigation, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan confirmed.
The incident occurred on Monday, May 13, before 6 p.m., when Natick Police responded to reports of a tragedy on the tracks between Washington Avenue, Cochituate Street, and Middlesex Avenue.
A 65-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man were struck and killed by an eastbound Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority Commuter Rail train traveling from Worcester to South Station.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the first victim near the tracks and descended the embankment to offer assistance.
They then saw the second victim, a man, trying to help the woman off the tracks.
Moments after the witnesses left the area, the train struck both individuals.
Initial findings by investigators suggest the victims were in a dating relationship and may have been in the vicinity of the tracks previously.
There is no indication of foul play at this stage of the investigation.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, Natick Police, and the Transit Police Department are jointly conducting the ongoing investigation.
