TILTON — The Tilton Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection to a theft at the Tilton Family Mausoleum in Park Cemetery.
Following a month-long investigation, officers executed search warrants in Ashland and Northfield, leading to the recovery of historic brass fittings that were stolen from the mausoleum.
Additionally, police discovered construction equipment worth over $100,000 that had been reported stolen from Concord and Ashland, along with a stolen 9mm handgun.
The search also led to the recovery of a decorative brass ring taken from the historic chandelier at the Tilton Mansion in the spring.
The suspect, Fred “Cricket” Cross, 53, from Northfield, has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including criminal mischief, theft, and interference with a cemetery or burial ground.
Cross has been identified as an armed career criminal and is currently being held without bail at the Belknap County House of Correction.
Additional charges are expected from several agencies.
The Ashland, Northfield, and Concord Police Departments each played an essential role in the investigation.
