NEW HAMPTON — A woman from Washington was charged with impaired driving following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 93 that led to a temporary shutdown of the highway and her being airlifted to a hospital.
State Police Communications was alerted to the accident near the Exit 23 offramp around 2:15 a.m. today, May 11.
Calls from other motorists about the crash followed shortly after the automated notification.
Upon arrival, troopers discovered a Jeep Renegade that had veered off the left side of the interstate, collided with an embankment, and rolled several times before stopping in the median.
The driver, 28-year-old Amanda B. Webber, was evaluated by the New Hampton Fire Department and then flown to Concord Hospital with injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening.
The section of I-93 where the crash occurred was closed for about 30 minutes to allow the medical helicopter to land and take off.
During the on-site investigation, signs of impairment were noticed, which led to Webber’s arrest for driving under the influence.
The response to the incident involved the New Hampshire State Police, the New Hampton Fire Department, the Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART), and New Hampton Towing.
While impairment and excessive speed are currently believed to be the main factors in the crash, the investigation remains ongoing.
