ST. JOHNSBURY — A collision between two vehicles on Severance Hill near Willey Farm Rd. led to the arrest of a local woman on charges including DUI and assault on a police officer, authorities said.
Vermont State Police responded to the crash scene at 5:04 p.m. on May 10, where they found a 2017 Ford Escape with front-end damage.
The driver, Shannon Rios, 28, of St. Johnsbury, reportedly showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody.
Christine Morey, 70, of Lunenburg, the operator of the second vehicle involved, a 2017 Chevy Cruze, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
The condition of her vehicle was not disclosed in the report.
According to the police, Rios was negligent in operating her vehicle, which resulted in the crash.
During the investigation, troopers observed multiple indicators suggesting Rios was under the influence.
After being transported to the state police barracks for processing, Rios allegedly assaulted a trooper.
Rios now faces charges for DUI, negligent operation, and assault of a protected professional.
She is scheduled to appear in Caledonia Superior Court – Criminal Division on May 20 at 8:30 a.m.
Following the incident, Rios was transported to the Northeast Correctional Complex for detoxification.
