WINSLOW — An investigation is underway after nearly 30 pounds of pills suspected to be fentanyl, with an estimated street value of $2 million, were mistakenly delivered to a resident.

The Winslow Police Department said Wednesday that a local resident reported an unexpected package from California on Friday.

The individual had not made any online purchases nor was anticipating any deliveries.

Upon opening the package, the resident discovered multiple bags containing pills.

Tests conducted by the police presumptively identified the substance as fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid.

A second package containing more pills arrived the following day, Saturday, bringing the total weight of the narcotics to about 29½ pounds.

The street value of the pills is thought to be as high as $2 million, according to police estimates.

Deputy Police Chief Randy Wing stated in the news release that the investigation is active.

No further details are being released at this time.

Authorities will provide updates as the case progresses.
