EPPING — A high-speed chase that began on Route 101 and continued onto Interstate 95 ended late Tuesday night with the arrest of a South Portland, Maine man who was later released on personal recognizance bail.
At around 9:21 p.m., state troopers from Troop A Barracks were alerted to a vehicle that had evaded Epping Police Department officers.
The vehicle, a silver 2005 Honda Accord, was spotted by Trooper Brian Hanna traveling eastbound on Route 101 near Exit 10 in Exeter at speeds exceeding 120 mph.
Despite attempts to pull over the Honda, the driver, identified as 28-year-old Bert E.
Clement, led troopers on a pursuit.
Upon exiting and re-entering Route 101 at Exit 12, Clement continued his flight into Hampton.
Troopers deployed tire deflation devices near the junction with I-95, successfully deflating two tires on the Accord, but the chase persisted through the Hampton Side Toll Plaza onto I-95 North in North Hampton.
The pursuit came to a halt when the vehicle finally stopped and Clement was taken into custody without further incident.
Clement showed signs of impairment and was charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated DUI, DUI, disobeying an officer, and reckless operation.
The Epping Police Department also filed charges related to their initial pursuit.
After processing, Clement was released on personal recognizance bail.
He is scheduled for arraignment on June 4 at 8 a.m. in the 10th Circuit Court – District Division – Brentwood.
The Epping and Hampton Police Departments aided the State Police in the incident.
