EXETER — A high-speed chase initiated by the Epping Police Department and culminating in a dramatic tire deflation maneuver resulted in the arrest of a Maine man on Tuesday night.
State Troopers from Troop A barracks were alerted to a vehicle that had fled Epping police at around 9:21 p.m. along Route 101 eastbound.
Trooper Brian Hanna spotted the silver 2005 Honda Accord speeding in excess of 120 mph near Exit 10 in Exeter.
Attempts to stop the car were unsuccessful as it continued its high-speed flight.
The pursuit extended into Hampton, where other Troopers deployed tire deflation devices near the I-95 junction.
Two tires of the Honda were successfully deflated, yet the vehicle persisted, weaving through the Hampton Toll Plaza onto I-95 North.
The pursuit ended in North Hampton where the driver was apprehended without further incident.
The driver, identified as Bert E. Clement, 28, from South Portland, Maine, exhibited signs of impairment, leading to his arrest on multiple charges, including reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and aggravated driving under the influence of drugs.
Following processing, Clement was released on personal recognizance bail to a responsible party.
He is scheduled for arraignment on June 4 at 8 a.m. in the 10th Circuit Court – District Division – Brentwood.
The investigation is ongoing, and Trooper Hanna is leading the inquiry.
The Epping and Hampton Police Departments also assisted in the incident.
