NEW BOSTON — Skeletal remains discovered in a wooded area off Francestown Road by a “shed hunter” on April 26 have been identified as those of a missing Vermont man, according to New Boston Police Chief James Brace.
The remains are confirmed to be that of Devin C. Whitham, 38, from Saxtons River, who was reported missing and endangered due to mental health concerns.
Whitham’s vehicle was found abandoned by Officer Marmorstein of the New Boston Police Department near Lang Station along the New Boston rail trail on April 24, at 11:16 p.m.
A check of the National Crime Information Center indicated he was missing.
In the days, weeks, and months following Whitham’s disappearance, extensive searches were conducted by New Boston Police, New Hampshire State Police, New Hampshire Fish & Game, volunteers, multiple canine search teams, and Whitham’s family and friends.
The remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Concord, where they were positively identified as Whitham.
The cause and manner of death are currently undisclosed, but foul play is not suspected.
The New Boston Police Department extends its gratitude to all the agencies involved in the investigation and expresses its deepest condolences to Whitham’s family and friends.
