COLCHESTER — Officers of the Colchester Police Department apprehended a wanted man who resisted arrest at a local McDonald’s parking lot Monday evening, while an associate in a vehicle fled the scene, narrowly avoiding two law enforcement members.
The incident occurred at 44 South Park Drive around 7:19 p.m., where police encountered Robert Williams, 30, from Burlington, who was known to have active arrest warrants.
As officers attempted to detain Williams, he struggled and tried to get into a car driven by a male acquaintance.
During Williams’ resistance, the driver of the vehicle accelerated out of the parking lot, almost hitting two officers.
The car was last seen speeding into Winooski, with the driver remaining at large.
Williams was subdued and taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center for evaluation before being held without bail at the Northwest State Correctional Facility.
He now faces additional charges for resisting arrest.
The Colchester Police, along with assistance from Colchester Rescue and the Winooski Police Department, are continuing their investigation.
