BOSTON — Boston Police Department officers arrested a 25-year-old man on firearm and drug charges after responding to a report of a person with a gun in the Mattapan neighborhood, authorities said.
At about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, officers from District B-3 were dispatched to the area of 1565 Blue Hill Avenue following a call about an individual armed with a gun.
Descriptions of a group of people, including the armed individual, were relayed to the responding officers by Boston Police Operations.
Upon arrival, officers noticed three individuals moving away from the reported location, one of whom matched the description provided.
The officers observed this individual keeping his arm tightly against his body as he walked, which raised their suspicion.
The officers approached the group and conducted a pat frisk on all three.
During the frisk, they discovered a loaded Smith and Wesson revolver with five rounds in the left pant pocket of one individual, later identified as Geronnie Pipkin of Hyde Park.
Pipkin was handcuffed immediately, while the other two individuals were released from the scene without charges.
A further search of Pipkin revealed multiple bags of marijuana, packaged in a manner typical for street-level distribution.
Pipkin was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession with intent to distribute class D substances.
He is scheduled for arraignment at Dorchester District Court.
