BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s District B-2 arrested a Roxbury man on firearm charges following a shot spotter activation early Saturday morning.
At about 12:08 a.m., on May 4, Leon Edmonds, 26, was apprehended after officers on patrol in Warren Gardens heard several loud bangs coinciding with the shot spotter alert indicating four rounds fired near 15 Dabney Street.
Upon arrival, police observed two individuals, one of whom appeared to be holding a smoking object before placing it into his waistband.
As officers approached in their cruiser, they discovered spent shell casings behind 7 Dabney Street and began searching for a suspect.
They spotted an individual running from the location, who then entered an idling vehicle and attempted to flee.
Police successfully stopped the vehicle at 15 Guild Street and detained both occupants.
With the help of a K9 unit, officers recovered a Taurus PTIII Pro handgun along the suspect’s escape route, loaded with one round in the chamber and eight in the magazine.
Edmonds faces charges for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
He is slated for arraignment at Roxbury District Court.
The driver of the vehicle was released from the scene without charges.
