MONTPELIER — A man has been arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault following an incident where a woman was allegedly attacked and robbed on Main Street, the Montpelier Police Department announced Friday.
The assault, reported to police at 6:26 p.m. on May 3, occurred near 4 Main Street.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the female victim and witnesses, who described the suspect as having thrown the victim to the ground, spat on her, and stolen her wallet.
After searching the vicinity, police located the suspect, 47-year-old Charles Bullard of Barre, still in possession of the victim’s property.
Based on Bullard’s prior conviction for aggravated domestic assault and the evidence from the current incident, authorities found probable cause to charge him with first-degree aggravated domestic assault, a felony.
Bullard was issued a citation to appear in the Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on May 6, to respond to the charge.
The Montpelier Police Department has not released any additional information regarding the case.
