NEWPORT — Newport City Police Sergeant Nicholas Rivers and Patrolman Tanner Jacobs arrested two individuals after a tense encounter near a suspected drug house on April 22.

Sergeant Rivers initially approached a parked truck, startling driver Jessica C. Prue, 43, of Sheffield.

After noticing three used crack pipes inside the vehicle, Sergeant Rivers requested to search it. Prue refused and tried to flee the scene, prompting a physical altercation.

As Prue attempted to start the truck, she kicked at the officers.

Sergeant Rivers used his taser to subdue her. Police say her passenger, Jason M. Willey, 40, of Newport, resisted exit from the vehicle, nearly injuring Jacobs by slamming the door on his fingers.

Both Prue and Willey were charged with impeding a public officer, resisting arrest, simple assault on a protected professional, and obstruction of justice.
